Manhattan, NY Nearing completion at 118 West 13th St. in Greenwich Village, The Katharine is a boutique residential project designed by a team comprised of interior designer Nate Berkus, in collaboration with BKSK Architects. The Katharine is Berkus’ first-ever residential development project.

Berkus is known for his elevated yet deeply personal interiors. His award-winning career includes multiple television shows, two New York Times best-selling books, a number of product collections and numerous high-end design projects that have been featured in leading design publications around the world.

Berkus has designed The Katharine’s collection of eight residences across seven stories honoring the building’s history and the charm of the Greenwich Village neighborhood.

Originally constructed in 1930 as The Katharine House by the Ladies Christian Union, the building served as one of several early 20th-century women’s residences designed to offer independent living opportunities for women coming to New York City for education and employment opportunities. Originally designed by architect Benjamin Wistar Morris, The Katharine has been diligently restored to its former glory.

The Katharine is developed by Slate Property Group in partnership with Avenue Realty Capital.

Compass Development Marketing Group serves as the exclusive sales and marketing firm for The Katharine.

The conversion builds on the legacy of Morris’ original architecture and the landmarked exterior of the building has been preserved and reimagined by BKSK Architects. BKSK is recognized for its designs across an array of projects that include 111 Charles St. and 144 Barrow St. in the West Village.

Each home takes full advantage of the building’s unique architecture, unfolding in a deliberate way while retaining elements of surprise with custom millwork, stone flooring patterns, vintage Italian lighting, large south-facing windows, and in select homes, a custom marble fireplace.

Select homes also include private outdoor terraces, direct keyed elevator access and views of the surrounding gardens and skyline.

Amenities include a 24-hour attended lobby, landscaped rooftop terrace with views, fitness studio with a yoga terrace and private storage units included with each residence.

Situated on a tree-lined street in Greenwich Village, residents are near cultural institutions, boutique shops and cafes.
