Badame of Tishman named chairman of RASC

According to the Regional Alliance for Small Contractors (RASC), Jay Badame, president and COO of Tishman Construction Corp. of N.Y., N.J. and Penn., has become its new chairman. Badame takes on the role once held by John Tishman, former chairman of Tishman Construction Corp. and one of the founders of RASC in the 1990s. RASC is a construction industry organization that trains, promotes and supports the development of small, minority- and women-owned construction and related businesses. As a supporter of RASC since its inception, Tishman Construction has devoted professional staff members, who serve as instructors, consultants and advisers, to developing small, minority- and women-owned businesses. Many of these firms have gone on to perform admirably on such signature Tishman projects as the Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park, which recently was certified as one of the world's first LEED Platinum skyscrapers, and on the new 1 World Trade Center Tower. "We welcome our long-time friend and adviser, Jay Badame, as the new chairman of the Regional Alliance," said Earle Walker, executive director. "We look forward to new initiatives and new growth under Jay's leadership." Outgoing RASC chairman Milo Riverso, Ph.D., P.E., and president of STV Group, Incorporated, was also honored at a recent membership meeting for his superb leadership and support of the Regional Alliance. "We look forward to strengthening this mutually rewarding enterprise that produces fine entrepreneurs, fosters employment, and invigorates competition within the construction industry," Badame said. "My goal as chairman is to strengthen RASC's programs even further, so that they are emulated throughout the country and provide a framework for a more competitive industry nationwide." Badame has more than 32 years of diversified construction industry experience, including 25 years with Tishman. He joined Tishman in 1985 as a project engineer on the South St. Seaport project in Manhattan. He quickly rose through the ranks of the organization by continuously demonstrating a thorough understanding of how to manage work effectively on a wide range of projects. In 1993, Badame was put in charge of Tishman's N.J. and Penn. operations. In this role, he led Tishman's efforts on several major, multi-million dollar projects, such as the JFK International Airport Redevelopment Program, the Continental Airlines Global Gateway Program at Newark Liberty International Airport, Rutgers University RUNet Program, N.J. Transit's Hoboken Terminal and Rail Yard Complex Redevelopment, and the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa in Atlantic City. As president and COO of Tishman Construction in N.Y., N.J. and Penn., Badame is playing a key role in such landmark projects as the new One World Trade Center, the World Trade Center Transportation Hub, and the Trans-Hudson Express Tunnel, a new rail passenger tunnel linking N.J. and midtown Manhattan. He earned a BS in Civil Engineering from Pennsylvania State University.
