Architect and developer Tamarkin Co. designs 508 West 24th Street; Goldstein Hill + West served as architect of record

Architect and developer Cary Tamarkin, founder of Tamarkin Co., has designed 508 West 24th St. Also collaborating with design architect Tamarkin on the project are Goldstein Hill + West Architects as the architect of record and Stribling Marketing Associates. Adjacent to the High Line, the 10-story building is designed in the spirit of West Chelsea's industrial-era warehouses, which characterize the neighborhood. 508 West 24th St. offers 15 two and three-bedroom condominium residences, ranging in size from 2,000 s/f to more than 3,300 s/f. The homes have10 to 12-ft. ceilings and continuous over-sized casement ribbon windows, which define the perimeter of each home. The windows, a signature of Tamarkin's design, alternate with bands of carefully composed architectural concrete. "I wanted to construct a building which sits comfortably amongst the beautiful warehouses of West Chelsea," said Tamarkin, design architect for the development. "Our goal is always to create buildings which are painstakingly designed, yet unpretentious." Monumental and muscular yet refined and elegant, Béton Brut refers to concrete poured in place and left exposed to reveal the hand of its making. This focus on every detail, such as carefully composed joints, tie holes, window mullions, and imprints left by the form work, is a true celebration of craftsmanship attained with the finest concrete experts and artisans collaborating to cast 508 West 24th. Composed of concrete and glass, the construction process is executed with geometrical precision and is evidenced and undisguised on the façade. The result is a classic, enduring structure that pays homage to some of the greatest buildings throughout history. Accessed via key-locked private elevator, each residence of the West-Chelsea gem features an entry gallery foyer, expansive open living/dining space, and solid four-inch-wide rift and quarter-sawn white oak floors. Each home contains Miele washers and dryers and energy-efficient, multi-zone heating and cooling systems. The kitchens offer beautifully appointed walnut cabinetry and Calacatta Gold-marble countertops and backsplashes, custom designed by Tamarkin himself, with Bianco sinks and Vola polished chrome faucets. A Viking six-burner stove, microwave, Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, Sub-Zero wine refrigerator, and Miele dishwasher complete the spacious kitchen design. Each private bedroom suite features a master bath spa with Italian Calacatta Gold-marble floor, walls and countertops; custom-designed white oak medicine cabinet and double vanity; steam shower with rain showerhead and built-in marble bench; Zuma soaking tub; and Vola polished chrome fixtures. Secondary bedrooms, with en suite baths and private dressing rooms, include Portuguese Azul Lagos limestone floors, porcelain ceramic tile walls, custom lacquered vanity, Catalano ceramic sink, Vola polished chrome fixtures, and Zuma soaking tub. Three penthouses offer panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline, including the Hudson River and Empire State Building. Each penthouse features a wood-burning fireplace, 11 or 12-foot ceilings, and three bedrooms with elegant en suite baths. The expansive wraparound private terraces envelope all three penthouses in a seductive mixture of sky, greenery and sculpted concrete. "Cary Tamarkin and his team redefined the luxury experience once again," said Cathy Taub, executive vice president at Stribling Marketing Associates, exclusive sales and marketing agent for 508 West 24th St. "He has created the most spectacular address in the most highly sought-after enclave of New York." The gallery-like lobby, designed in a palette of cypress wood and natural cleft slate, will feature a doorman and an intercom and video security system. The building will house a fully equipped fitness facility, a full-time superintendent, a laundry room with commercial-grade machines, large private storage rooms for each residence, bicycle storage, and a shared courtyard with gas grill. In addition to overlooking the High Line and world famous galleries, 508 West 24th St. is just steps away from several of Manhattan's top-tier private schools, numerous restaurants, shops, the Chelsea Market, Chelsea Piers and nearby Meatpacking District.
