Addeo of Cresa New York: Feed your passion, fight your fears
Name: Jamie Addeo
Title: Vice President
Company Name: Cresa New York
Years in Commercial Real Estate: 7
In the last 12 months, which project, transaction, honor or accomplishment are you most proud of and why?
I've worked on several significant deals this year which I was very blessed to be a part of. Negotiating with very senior professionals in our industry can be slightly intimidating, especially for women rising in their career. I felt that this year was my turning point. Commercial real estate is a tough business and not many make it to that point. That in itself is a great accomplishment. I am proud of my organization, Cresa New York, and the accomplishments we have made as a group over the last two years.
What were your biggest fears when you started out in your profession?
My biggest fears were that I wouldn't make it or that I would hate it. I moved back home after living in Los Angeles to learn the business and become a broker in the most competitive market: New York. Six years later, I'm still here, thriving and loving every single day. Feed your passion, fight your fears!
What is your favorite quote?
I have two favorite quotes. I couldn't choose so, I will give you both. Anyone who knows me, knows I'm an avid football fan and a Fordham Ram. Therefore, I have to go with the great Vince Lombardi: "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." The second quote is a lyric from the Bon Jovi song Just Older: "Roll the dice till they call your bluff, but you can't win till you're not afraid to lose." Both have similar themes.
What social media and/or face to face networking activities do you find most beneficial professionally?
I use LinkedIn as my social media conduit to people I want to meet. I keep my LinkedIn connections pretty lean because I believe the only way for it to work is if you have people in your network that would actually make a valuable introduction. There is no point having 500 connections, unless they all add value!
