On June 13th at the Union League Club, the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York) presented congressman Tim Bishop with its Chairman's Award for his steadfast support of transportation and infrastructure funding as a means to maintain New York's quality of life and create jobs throughout the state. Two engineering professionals, Orrin "Mac" MacMurray, P.E., and Seth Kaeuper, P.E., both of C&S Cos., were also recognized at the council's spring conference for their contributions to the profession.
Chairman's Award:
Congressman Bishop
The ACEC New York Chairman's Award is presented each year to an individual who has shown outstanding leadership, creativity and vision related to New York's engineering community including infrastructure, development, and the business of design.
Since being elected ten years ago to represent New York's First Congressional District, Bishop has been a leading voice in the state for preserving federal investments in transportation, water and aviation infrastructure, and has been on the front lines defending dedicated mass transit investments that keep New York's economy moving.
As a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and Ranking Democratic Member of the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee, Bishop has worked to safeguard New York's waterways, as well as to promote legislation that protects state beaches and creates employment opportunities for New Yorkers, such as the Water Quality Protection and Job Creation Act (H.R. 3145). He currently is a member of the Transportation bill conference committee.
Engineer of the Year:
MacMurray
The Engineer of the Year Award is given to an active or retired member of ACEC New York who has made significant contributions to the consulting engineering profession, the council and to his or her community.
MacMurray has been committed to the engineering profession for more than 40 years. He began his career as a civil engineer, designing and leading infrastructure projects. Some of his most notable achievements include a tunneling project for the City of Rochester to address an early combined sewer overflow challenge, and a national defense project for Lockheed Martin developing radar installations in Canada. MacMurray went on to lead the engineering operations for C&S Cos., diversifying its practice from a civil/municipal engineering firm to a full service, multi-disciplined company practicing in the areas of transportation, aviation, environmental, facilities, civil infrastructure and energy.
Through his leadership positions at ACEC, including past president of ACEC New York and national chairman, MacMurray serves as a national spokesman for the profession. He interacts with and educates politicians, private industry, and the public sector about the essential role of consulting engineering firms in keeping our nation's infrastructure safe, sound and functional.
New Principal of the
Year Award: Kaeuper
The New Principal Award is given to the ACEC New York member who has been a principal less than five years and who has made significant contributions in the form of ideas and service to the consulting engineering community.
As C&S Engineer's regional manager of transportation services for Western New York, Kaeuper is responsible for all bridge and highway design projects in the firm's Rochester branch office. He has 15 years of hands-on experience designing small to complex structures, including work on numerous bridge rehabilitation and replacement projects for NYSDOT. In his four-year tenure at C&S, Kaeuper has been the driver behind project selection, scoping, contracts and the delivery of federally aided projects for municipalities including the City of Rochester, Chautauqua County, Livingston County, Monroe County, Wayne County, and Erie County. In his role as principal, provides a strong mentoring program and has expanded his office by hiring recent engineering graduates.
An active member of ACEC New York, Kaeuper is currently chairman-elect for the Rochester region and QBS Committee chair for the statewide organization. He has held multiple positions on the board of the Association for Bridge Design and Construction of Western New York (ABCD), most recently as president. Tags:
