The American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York) inducted a new slate of officers and directors at the association's annual spring luncheon on June 12 at the Union League Club in New York City. All officers' and directors' terms began on July 1.
Linda Shumaker, P.E., president and managing principal of Shumaker Consulting Engineering & Land Surveying, (SCE), is the new chair. Outgoing chair Mitchel Simpler, P.E., the managing partner of Jaros, Baum & Bolles, will be the national director of ACEC New York, serving as liaison between ACEC New York and the national organization in Washington, D.C.
Shumaker brings to the position 35 years of civil engineering experience. Following in her father's footsteps, she became managing partner of the firm he established in 1956, reincorporating in 1992 as a Women Owned Business Enterprise. Today, SCE is a full service engineering firm known and recognized for providing a comprehensive range of transportation, environmental and civil/site engineering, geomatics and construction observation services. The firm is FAA certified and offers A-GIS services for aviation projects.
Shumaker has worked with a broad range of public and private sector clients, and has been actively involved in the growth and development of the Southern Tier. She currently serves as an executive committee member for many advisory organizations involved in the development and implementation of public policy. Shumaker is a member of the governor's regional economic council in the Southern Tier and serves on the Watson School of Engineering advisory board at Binghamton University, the Binghamton University Roadmap Community Engagement Committee, the Broome Community College Civil Engineering Technical advisory committee, the Broome County IDA advisory loan committee, and the Southern Tier East regional planning board.
She holds a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University (1981), Graduate Study in Sanitary Science from Syracuse University (1978) and a B.S. in Biology from SUNY Oswego (1976).
