Name: Pamela Cozzi

Title: Senior Project Manager

Company Name: NYCAN Builders

Why should women consider a career in construction?
Why not?! Typically, women have great organizational skills, which is an advantage, and who doesn’t love seeing something go from a blank canvas to a finished product? You are like a conductor of many different and moving parts. You also take part in its composition and tempo. The work is rewarding because it is challenging and different from day to day. You are always learning, and the associations/relationships you create is priceless.

What advice would you offer to other women getting into the construction industry?
Don’t be timid, ask lots of questions. Request to be in the field to learn as much as possible from the trades performing the work and the superintendents managing them. Seek proficiency in basic accounting and project management software, as efficiency is your best ally. Learn to work with tools to appreciate the effort to complete a task and practice timeliness to satisfy your clients. Show gratitude and respect for all, no matter their position.
