Why should women consider a career in construction?
There is a variety of careers in construction outside skilled labor trades. During my career I have seen several women in leadership roles in the industry (operations, finance, marketing, purchasing, human resources) that continue to drive innovation and enhance productivity. Men and women are wired to think differently, and the industry can definitely use this for problem solving.
What advice would you offer to other women getting into the construction industry?
Stand out, stay true to your values, expand your skillset, and collaborate. Shawmut’s Construction Management Skills Training (CMST) program gives you the opportunity to work in various fields and find your best fit. Finding a good mentor within your company can also help you succeed.
