What current or recently completed project, accomplishment or initiative are you most excited about, and why does it matter for your team, clients or community?
The current project I’m working on is a 10-story, multi-level residential building in White Plains, NY. I’m especially excited because it’s my first ground-up project, and it also includes significant soil remediation and cleanup. I’ll have the opportunity to be involved from start to finish, which is a really rewarding experience.
What is one piece of advice or perspective you would share with women beginning their careers in the construction industry?
Be confident and don’t be afraid to speak up if you think you have an answer; being wrong is part of learning. Also, seek out mentors, whether it’s another woman you admire or someone with more experience and knowledge who has the career path you aspire to.
What emerging challenge or opportunity do you see shaping the construction industry in the next few years, and how are you preparing for it?
Rising and falling tariffs, along with the unpredictability they bring, are a major challenge. Callahan is taking proactive steps in contract negotiations, including price-escalation clauses, diversifying supply chains to incorporate domestic or non-tariffed vendors, and locking in material pricing early whenever possible.
What do you wish more women knew about the opportunities available in the construction industry today?
I wish more women understood that construction isn’t intimidating, and you don’t have to be overly tough to thrive in it. There are so many different paths and roles available, and the industry has space for all kinds of personalities. Women can absolutely find a position that suits their strengths and interests.
What habit or routine helps you stay focused or motivated during a busy week?
Planning and prioritizing my tasks each day is key. At the end of the day, I like to write a manageable, next day to-do list.
What is something outside of work that brings you energy, balance or creativity?
The gym keeps me mentally and physically balanced; cooking helps me unwind and express creativity.
Share one fun or unexpected detail about yourself that colleagues might not know.
My primary hobby is Olympic weightlifting, which I train for regularly and compete in a few times each year.
