2026 Ones to Watch - Industry Leaders: Michael Rishty, Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP

Michael Rishty
Partner & Real Estate Practice Co-Head
Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP

“Regarded by clients as a sharp, strategic dealmaker, Michael Rishty delivers business driven solutions that bring complex real estate transactions across the finish line. He is ranked by Chambers USA. He is a Fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. He is a Citizens Budget Commission trustee, and president of the SAM School’s board, where he has led pro bono real estate matters.”

What recent accomplishment or initiative are you most proud of, and what impact did it have on your firm, clients, or community?

Handling the firm’s real estate matters, including the renewal of Davis Polk’s New York office lease as well as overseeing the build-out of plans, lease executions and space initiatives for the firm across our office locations. The 450 Lexington lease was a particularly meaningful deal - both for the firm and within the broader New York real estate community - and gave me the opportunity to be closely involved in shaping the firm’s next generation workplace.

Who has had the greatest impact on your career or leadership journey?

My father. Though he died before my career, he set an example as a law firm and community leader.

What advice would you share with emerging professionals striving to become future leaders in commercial real estate?

Find your place where you feel most comfortable and play to your own strengths. As a leader, allow others within your team to find their own paths and create their own success. Support your team by giving them the opportunity to become successful in their path and with tools necessary to achieve that success.
