What skill or quality do you believe is essential for success in your field today?

The skill or quality that I believe is essential for success in my field today is confidence. You need to be prepared, know what you are doing and believe in yourself. Then, hold your ground in those conference rooms and places where your very presence will be challenged and maybe even questioned. When you know your role and material inside and out, you will be able to speak with authority and confidence.

What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in commercial real estate?

The advice I would give a woman considering a career in commercial real estate is find a well-established, female mentor in the industry. This mentor would be able to help you overcome any obstacles you may come up against. Of course, this does not mean that male allies will not advocate for you the same way. I have had both female and male mentors in my over 35 years in this business. I still remember all they taught me.
