He is a rising star!” - Elijah Rechler, Senior Vice President, Corporate and Investment Strategy, RXR Realty.

What recent professional milestone or project are you most proud of, and why? A few months into my job as a senior property coordinator, my assistant property manager was transferred to another property. A month later my tenant services coordinator quit and then my property manager temporarily took leave. Switching into high gear, I was faced with essentially running a 1.8 million s/f building on my own. I met with tenants daily to make sure their needs were met; I handled tenant invoicing and operational expenses; and I helped navigate capital improvements. Tenants, building staff, and upper management commended me for a job well-done during this transition period.

What is your top advice for someone just starting out in your field? I would encourage all young professionals to be actively involved in all aspects of the building. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. In fact, I have learned a great deal about building systems from the chief engineer by showing interest in his work. Don’t sit at your desk all day; walk the floors, meet with tenants, engage in meaningful conversations with building staff, sit in on leasing discussions. Communication is key as this will help you grow into becoming a well-rounded professional.

Comment: After partaking in BOMA New York’s Emerging Leaders program, I recently applied for and received a scholarship to obtain my RPA certification through the BOMI classes. I also received a Certificate in Commercial Property Management from NYU while working at RXR.
