2025 Ones To Watch - Industry Leaders: Simon Power, M.C. Electrical NY

Simon Power
Vice President of Operations
M.C. Electrical NY

Recent goal and impact:

M.C. Electrical has grown into a leading regional electrical contractor employing 230 field professionals and support staff. In order to efficiently manage all aspects of the firm’s operations, I led the development and implementation of a highly customized, Smartsheet enterprise management software system that allows for real-time overview and planning of project scheduling, labor management, finances, billing, human resources and all other company activities. This initiative has been very successful and we are currently expanding the system to incorporate additional features.

Turning problems into opportunities:

Hiring skilled trade professionals is a challenge. We have established a multi-step interview procedure that results in identification and hiring of top professionals. It incorporates initial phone/video interviews, multiple choice questionnaires and practical tests. Once candidates are hired, M.C. Electrical focuses on retaining the professionals based on the idea that happy employees are loyal employees. Our firm rewards exceptional performance and safety mindset, organizes team events and offers highly competitive benefits such as paid time off, a retirement plan and a college savings plan.

Who was/is your role model and/or leadership mentor? My father, an electrician in Ireland, instilled in me good work ethics and personal responsibility.

“Simon joined M.C.E. as a Foreman in 2020 and quickly proved invaluable in growing and managing our firm’s operations. He is creative, diligent, respectful and pro-active in both taking advantage of business opportunities and resolving challenges inherent in operating a large construction firm. He was recently promoted to Vice President of Operations.” - Mark Comerford, principal and CEO, M.C. Electrical NY.
