2025 Ones To Watch - Industry Leaders: Brian Troast, Shawmut Design and Construction

Brian Troast
Sr. Director of Construction Operations
Shawmut Design and Construction

Recent goal and impact:

I joined Shawmut in 2024 to work with a talented team delivering large, complex projects across healthcare, commercial, education, hospitality, cultural, and life sciences. From day one, I’ve focused on building strong relationships and delivering excellent results for our clients. Today, I’m proud to support Shawmut as senior director of construction operations as we continue to grow our market share in large vertical projects. It’s incredibly rewarding to lead our teams through every phase of project delivery, ensuring the highest level of technical execution and client satisfaction.

Sharing knowledge and expertise:

It’s very important to me to spend time with our project teams, and I actively carve out time in my schedule to visit our jobsites. Being onsite helps me better understand the challenges we’re facing and facilitates more effective problem solving. We all enjoy talking about the projects we’ve completed throughout our careers, so when we’re diagnosing an issue, I often share examples from my own experience and the lessons I’ve learned along the way to help frame the solution.

Best advice for new leaders:

Take accountability, learn from mistakes, and strive for continuous improvement.
