2024 Women in CRE: Marissa Vega, BGO

Marissa Vega
Principal
BGO

Why should this nominee be recognized in our Women in Commercial Real Estate Spotlight?

“Marissa consistently displays determination and integrity with a resilient ‘can-do’ attitude and shows strong leadership skills through her commitment and work ethic. However, I think her greatest skill is her ability to connect with individuals regardless of their level of seniority as demonstrated by the fact that she is as well respected for her opinions and knowledge by senior leaders at BGO as she is a trusted and much-loved leader of her team. I believe that Marissa is a great role model for women in the industry, showing how hard work, attention to detail coupled with a caring and considerate attitude to your colleagues and peers can lead to opportunities and success within even the largest of organizations.” - Ajay Sharma, Global Head of Investor Relations at BGO.

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of?

During one of the most challenging fundraising periods in over a decade within real estate private equity, I played a key role in raising a new fund, nearly double the size of the previous fund in the series while simultaneously helping to launch new funds and spearhead firmwide capital-raising initiatives. As co-head of the capital raising & investor relations execution team, I have been instrumental in driving our global fundraising efforts while building a new team and streamlining existing processes to enhance efficiency across the organization.

What are the most important factors young women should consider when choosing a firm to build their career with?

Seek firms that cultivate a strong culture and uphold values aligned with your own, while emphasizing both professional and personal advancement. Women should especially seek out companies dedicated to growing their specific career goals and trajectories. Prioritize employers who actively invest in employee development and support your long-term aspirations. Evaluate factors such as mentorship programs, skill-building opportunities, and clear advancement paths. A supportive work environment that champions diversity and inclusion is essential.

Who inspires you most? What qualities do they possess that inspire you?

My mother is my greatest inspiration. She has consistently emphasized the importance of hard work and integrity, which has profoundly shaped the person I have become. Her unwavering dedication instilled in me a strong work ethic, while her resilient ‘can-do’ attitude taught me to face challenges confidently. She demonstrates that success stems from persistent effort and high ethical standards, not just talent. Through her example, she has molded my approach to both professional and personal life, inspiring me to pursue excellence while maintaining my strong values.
