2024 Women in CRE: Christina Ying, Herrick

Christina Ying
Partner
Herrick

Why should this nominee be recognized in our Women in Commercial Real Estate Spotlight?

Christina is an exceptional partner and an extremely hard worker. Her commitment to Herrick, our clients, and the entire firm is unparalleled. I’m proud to call her my partner and she deserves to be on this 2024 CRE listing from the NYREJ.” - Jonathan Adelsberg, Partner; Co-Chair, Real Estate Department; Chair of Leasing at Herrick.

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of?

I was proud to be a part of the Herrick team as we recently represented KPR Centers in connection with acquiring a $180 million multi-state portfolio of eight shopping centers through a joint venture structure. The portfolio includes retail centers in Florida, Wisconsin and Missouri, comprising more than 1.5 million square feet of space. Cumulatively 96% leased at the time of the acquisition, the portfolio is a combination of grocery-anchored and power centers.

Which professional organization(s) would you recommend to women just starting out in your industry:

Any organization where you feel engaged, support the cause or are learning from the membership. I am on the Board of both the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) and Asian Real Estate Professionals Association (AREPA), and I have found them both to have exceptionally smart and interesting members. Also, your undergrad or law school alumni associations can be hugely impactful on next steps professionally, sourcing clients and for additional mentorship and support as you progress in your career.

What would your title be if the words currently use to describe your job no longer existed?

Problem Solver.

What are the most important factors young women should consider when choosing a firm to build their career with?

A company’s culture and its people are top considerations for choosing a place to work and start a career. You want a firm that is supportive and where you will find mentors. Since we spend most of the day at work, our workplace is like a second home. I believe you will find more success in your career if you have a work environment that you enjoy going to each day.
