Hempstead Industrial Development Agency approves lease for a second Burlington Store

Hempstead, NY Fred Parola, chief executive of the Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency (IDA), has approved a new lease at Green Acres Mall for Burlington. It will be the off-price retailer’s second store at Green Acres.

The new lease, which is subject to execution, is for an almost 93,000 s/f space that will employ 10 full-time workers, 55 part-timers, and 62 seasonal employees.

A Burlington store, located in the adjacent Green Acres Commons outdoor shopping center, opened in 2016.

In April 2024, the IDA granted new assistance to the mall and the commons in the form of five-year extensions of the payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreements, or PILOTs, that were granted in 2015. Both are owned by the Macerich Co., a real estate investment trust based in Santa Monica, CA.

“This new lease with Burlington is evidence of Green Acres’ attractiveness to both consumers and retailers, justifying the IDA’s continued investment in these shopping centers,” Parola said.
