2021 Year in Review: Kenne Shepherd, Kenne Shepherd Interior Design Architecture PLLC

Name: Kenne Shepherd

Job Title: Principal

Company Name: Kenne Shepherd Interior Design Architecture PLLC

What was the biggest lesson you learned while working during the pandemic?
Living in Manhattan and experiencing first-hand the effects of the pandemic on the city, I am heartened by the resilience of New Yorkers as we emerge from the shutdown of our city. Nearly two years after the pandemic, we are moving out of isolation to reengage with our families and communities. New Yorkers have shown resilience time and again in the face of adversity and will continue to do so.

What was your greatest professional accomplishment or most notable project, deal, or transaction in 2021?
I was honored this year to be included in the annual issue of Interior Design’s Best in Design, featuring one of our last projects for Canadian retailer EQ3, their Manhattan flagship.

What are your predictions for your industry in 2022?
The new year will continue to be challenging for retailers in the city. I am encouraged by the number of retailers who have reopened and the return of tourists to the city. Unfortunately, many retailers closed during the pandemic, leaving us with too many vacant retail spaces. That won’t change until most office workers return to the city. Not only small retailers but major chains and department stores depend on office workers for much of their business.
