Which project, deal, or transaction was the “game-changer” in the advancement of your career?
During my undergraduate internship at Gensler, I worked on the design for Crystal City. I realized I wanted to be the one sitting at the head of the table, making the decisions based upon the larger picture. A good design entails knowledge of the project in its entirety, financials, zoning, construction, etc. I went on to earn a master’s degree, and then went directly into real estate and project management.
Who or what inspires you?
Being uncomfortable. Going outside of my comfort zone. A certain amount of discomfort cultivates creativity and spurs inspiration. Coming up with solutions to problems in this business requires the ability to pivot and find new approaches. Whether it’s a basic 5,000 s/f renovation or an elaborate 200,000 s/f new build, the internal infrastructure of every client is different. I’m also incredibly inspired by the women who work in this industry, and I’m determined to create more opportunities for them. Starting my own firm was a big step in that direction.
What do you like most about your job?
The hustle of managing a business, including the relationships and connections that develop along the way. I also find it helpful and challenging to see how companies operate differently. It requires you to be flexible and adapt where needed.
