2019 Women in Building Services: Kristin DeLuca, Bohler Engineering

Name: Kristin DeLuca

Title: Project Manager

Company Name: Bohler Engineering

How many years have you been in your current field? 15

What was your greatest professional achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months?
I’m currently working with an amazing team on the Belmont Arena Development project, future home of the NY Islanders hockey team. As part of this billion-dollar development, there are many moving parts. They’re proposing an arena, hotel, office building and retail, to be built around the existing Belmont Racetrack and Grandstand. I find it fascinating to develop solutions to relocate or accommodate the old infrastructure we often come across. The facility was initially constructed in the early 1900’s and renovated in the 1950s and 60s. Collaboration is key. We are one of many consultants whose design is impacted by and may impact the scope of other engineers, architects and designers. The project schedule is also critical. Construction is anticipated to start in 2019 and be complete by September 2021 for the start of the Islanders’ hockey season. Working with team members to ensure information is being shared and solutions are being found is a daily effort.

What does it mean to you to be a team player?
For me, the most effective way to be a team player is to make sure your teammates have what they need to be successful. Individual success will only get you so far. No tasks are beneath me if it makes a project successful, or helps someone achieve their goals.
