What was your greatest professional achievement or most notable project in the last 12 months?
2018 was a year of helping Stantec’s bottom-line. I was asked to assist on four different projects for a maximum of five months each to “right the ship”…which meant assess the financial and liability risk, re-establish a proper team, and crate a plan forward based on our contractual agreements. I was honored to be a problem solver. I learned something new with each assignment and team. In the end, it was a true win-win.

What trend(s) do you predict to dominate your industry in 2019?
I work predominantly in the institutional market sector. The aging of buildings and infrastructure struggling to keep up with growing technology cabling, wireless and server needs. Solutions for this has ranged from remote clouds to furniture integration. I’m assuming this is just the beginning of solutions to come. I also see that education/healthcare clients want a retail-hospitality experience, from dorm room to hospital rooms which has shaped design and impacted costs and expectation. Additionally, the demand for “on-demand” has also played a role in where business is conducted. Education is done on-line, and classrooms must be repurposed challenging students and faculty to connect, and the sense of campus. Patient care continues to move more ambulatory from centers to retail pharmacy chains.  Health systems are struggling to maintain doctor-patient relationship, not to mention the real estate domain.

Which of your philanthropic endeavors are you most proud of?
Anytime I support my community, i.e. my local neighborhood, organizations I belong to or my client’s fundraisers, I feel it’s an honor to contribute to the fabric of my society. That being said, I am most proud of the time and donations I provide to my daughter’s elementary school, PS 314 Muscota New School. My husband and I welcome new families each Summer at the opening picnic, spend time on SLT boards and volunteering on committees or within classrooms. We have contributed to the Arts and STEM outreach the school has been able to provide. We get back far more than we give. I feel that these young lives have been touch by our efforts and those of the entire Muscota Community.

What does it mean to you to be a team player?
A team player likely has many talents but knows how to shine in the role they’ve been given, and when to step up if another is struggling. A team player looks for the benefits of the whole, never the weakness; they have no need for self-promotion. Teams who agree to a share goal have true buy-in for success.
