2019 Women in Real Estate: Laura Jackson, FTI Consulting

Name: Laura Jackson

Title: Senior Managing Director

Company Name: FTI Consulting

Association/Organization Affiliations (REAL ESTATE ONLY): Vice Chairman of YM/WREA; Vice President of the Board of Rebuilding Together NYC

What books, blogs, podcasts, resources or influencers would you recommend to women?
This summer I read “Becoming” by Michelle Obama, “The Moment of Lift” by Melinda Gates and listened to “Power Moves” by Adam Grant on Audible. I enjoy being inspired by other leaders addressing how they solve gender issues and motivate others to make a positive impact on the world. I also read “Above the Line” by Urban Meyer, retired coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes. What ultimately leads a team to a championship provides comparable strategy on how to lead my team through big deadlines and projects. We thrive on meeting deadlines as a team!

What recent project or transaction are you most proud of?
I founded She Builds, a committee of powerful women in real estate dedicated to advancing women while giving back to the community. On September 27th, the She Builds committee will lead 100 women and supporters to provide critical repairs to the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center, serving survivors of abuse, their children and community teens. This is our 4th year of She Builds and I couldn’t be more proud of the support we are giving to those in need but also the camaraderie of the She Builds executives working on deals together while serving a greater purpose.

What was one of your biggest accomplishments in the last 12 months?
Over the past year, I led NYC’s largest landlords to millions in tax savings as a result of tax reform, opportunity zones and proper tax structuring and planning. I am also working on a large REIT roll-up transaction outside of NYC scheduled to go public later this year. Outside of tax, I spent my spare time in 2019 serving as vice chairman for the Young Men’s/Women’s Real Estate Association (YM/WREA) and as vice president of Rebuilding Together NYC, a charitable organization giving back to NYC residents.

Tri-state capital migrates nationally amid regulation pressure - by Reese Weaver

New York tri-state multifamily investors are increasingly reallocating capital to less-regulated markets across the U.S. as rent control and legislative risk erode returns at home. With over 60% of New York City’s rental housing stock classified as rent-stabilized, the traditional value-add model — buying under-performing buildings,

The death of the generic offering memorandum: What buyers expect in 2025 - by Kimberly Zar Bloorian

There was a time when an offering memorandum (OM) was pretty bare bones, some photos, a few bullet points on income, and a rent roll thrown in at the back. That used to get the job done. Not anymore. In 2025, buyers are sharper, faster, and more selective. They’re looking
