If you have had a mentor in your career, who was it and what did they teach you?
Elizabeth Moss of Moss Preservation Works. Elizabeth came to Leslie E. Robertson Aassociates from Swanke Hayden Connell Architects, where she specialized in Historic Preservation of buildings. When she came to LERA, she saw my interest in existing structures and was encouraged by another mentor of mine, Doug Gonzalez, to take me under her wing. She taught me everything I know now about the historic preservation of NYC buildings and cultivated my love of New York City history. I credit Elizabeth with showing me how to grow and be a reliable resource on any historic project I take on.
What trends are you seeing so far this year in your field?
Recently, there has been a lot of emphasis on incorporating newer technology within the construction and real estate industries. At LERA, our brilliant computational engineering team has been finding ways to optimize complex structures and art pieces using a wide range of popular modeling softwares, such as Rhinoceros and Revit, as well as several proprietary scripts and programs developed by our engineers. Supple Technologies recently released Immersify, which has been a great tool for collaboration in virtual reality. I will be paying close attention as the industry continues to find inventive ways to take advantage of 3D and 4D technology.
When I am not working I am…
Maintaining a careful work-life balance. I like to visit unique art exhibits and interactive events like the National Geographic Encounters, as well as a variety of networking events and lectures. Yoga has been a new passion of mine, and I split the rest of my time between a variety of hobbies that include creating artwork, knitting, and puzzle solving.
