2018 Ones to Watch: Brendan Thrapp, Senior Director at Commercial EXR Group Companies, LLC

Name: Brendan Thrapp

Title: Senior Director, Commercial

Address: 111 North 12th Street, 5th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11249.

Company: EXR Group Companies, LLC

Year that you entered your current field? 2015

What are your professional goals for 2018?

My professional goals are to grow as a leader and help grow EXR’s commercial division into the top commercial leasing firm in Brooklyn. We started off renting storefronts and we were quickly able to leverage that into new development product, whether it be retail or office. It’s been an exciting ride and every six months it seems like we’re passing milestones no on thought we’d be able to achieve. The focus is really on being the go-to commercial firm in Brooklyn.

How did you get your start in your current field?

Right out of college I started in finance at a buy-side investment fund. I wasn’t really enjoying what I was doing and, at the time, my good friend, John Le Vine had co-founded EXR. I was drawn to EXR after a few meetings and discussions with Mario Faggiano and John Le Vine. Entrepreneurism and being part of a young, motivated group of individuals was what stood out initially.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

If I had to guess, I would see myself continuing to grow the commercial division and presiding over an efficient and robust operation with various business lines.

It’s hard to tell. Five years ago I wouldn’t have guessed that I’d be where I’m at now.

Who or what do you attribute to your success?

There are various people that have contributed in a big way to my career and life over the years. I attribute success towards having a positive, optimistic look on life and always trying to learn and improve.
