How did you get your start in real estate?

I was a real estate attorney for 14 years prior to starting as a real estate broker. Once I was ready to change careers, I called a friend/broker of mine and asked him if there was room for me at his company.

What real estate associations or organizations are you a member of?

ICSC

What recent project or transaction are you most proud of?

I am most proud of representing a lender in the sale of a “real estate owned” commercial building in Yonkers. Since the lender never visits the site, I felt responsible to care for the site as if it were my own. I drove by the property and spoke to the tenants numerous times a week. This relationship with the building and tenants turned into additional work in relocating the tenants once the building was sold.

What recent honor, achievement or recognition has meant the most to you and why?

Bringing 420 South Riverside Ave. in Croton On Hudson to full occupancy is an achievement for which I am very proud. The last availability in the shopping center was an “L” shaped space with little frontage. My colleague and I were able to match the space with a pet store/training facility use. The lessee was a brand new business venture for two hardworking women in Westchester. I worked with them tirelessly to resolve many tough issues so that they can finally realize their American Dream.

What have been some of the benefits of being a mentor or having a mentor?

There are many benefits to having a mentor. A mentor is always there to guide you, give you advice and learn from.

Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why?

Having a legal background provides me with the ability to assess and understand all aspects of a deal during all of its stages.

What time management strategies do you find to be the most effective for you?

The most effective time management strategies are setting up a routine and time period for phone calls and appointments which I adhere to every day.

What is the best advice you have received and who was it from?

The best advice that I have received was from Robert Friedland who always said, “Never make assumptions.” If you assume a property is not available and don’t invest the effort and make the call, you eliminate any possibility of making a deal. Making that call requires a minimal investment but the upside in finding that diamond in the rough can be very rewarding.
