What have been some of the benefits of being a mentor or having a mentor?

I was lucky enough to have a couple of mentors early on in my career and they were instrumental in guiding me in the right direction and teaching me the importance of good habits, hard work, and perseverance.  As a mentor to younger brokers in my office, I find myself recalling some of the lessons I learned when I first started and imparting them.  Having someone to learn from and collaborate with is definitely a key to success. 

What is the best advice you have received and who was it from?

The best advice I have ever received was fairly early on in my career from my father, Ira Fishman.  He told me that to survive and succeed in this competitive industry you need to have a thick skin and a strong stomach.  I consider it a crucial lesson especially as a female in a male dominated industry.
