Axis Construction builds $25 million nursing center at Molloy College; Designed by BRB Architects

Rockville Center, NY Axis Construction, Inc. has completed construction on The Barbara H. Hagan Center for Nursing at Molloy College.  Designed by BRB Architects, this academic facility opened for classes early this year.

The new $25 million, 50,000 s/f nursing center is a sustainably designed three-story building with a fully functioning basement. The building is enclosed with brick, cast stone, aluminum and glass curtain walls.

Among the building’s special features are: a terrazzo floating staircase enclosed by structural steel and glass; tiered classrooms; computer labs; remote distant learning centers; student entertainment lounges; nursing laboratories; conference rooms; and offices.

All teaching rooms are equipped with audiovisual systems.  Also featured are a healing garden and a “live roof” on the second floor that houses plants. Designed and constructed with a focus on environmentally sound and cost-effective building practices, this facility is expected to receive LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
