Kristin Schuster, SWBR Architects

Name: Kristin Schuster
Title: Project Architect
Company: SWBR Architects
Location: Rochester, N.Y.
Birthplace: Rochester, N.Y.
Education: BS in Architecture from the University at Buffalo
First job outside of real estate: I spent my summers lifeguarding/teaching swim lessons in high school and early college.
First job in real estate or allied field: The summer before my junior year of college, I was fortunate enough to get an internship with SWBR where I work today.
What do you do now and what are you planning for the future? I'm currently a project architect in the education studio here at SWBR, I focus on higher education projects and sustainable design including LEED certification. My plans for the future are to continue doing this work as I find it very rewarding. I would also like to get more sustainable design concepts and programs incorporated into our K12 projects.
How do you unwind from a busy day in real estate? I enjoy working out and running which is a great stress reliever after an action-packed day at the office. A little bit of chocolate doesn't hurt either!
Favorite book or author: No favorite author or book, but I enjoy a good mystery and have recently gotten into historical fiction.
Favorite movie: If I'm being honest, I'd have to say "Pretty Woman!"
Last song you downloaded? ---
One word to describe your work environment: Organized.
Rules to live by in business: Don't be afraid to ask questions because this is how you learn and grow for tomorrow.
If you could invite one person to dinner (living or dead) who would it be and where would you go? I would invite Mies van der Rohe to dinner at his Farnsworth House in Illinois. I remember learning about him and his work during my freshman year of architecture school and I've been an admirer ever since.
What is your dream job? My dream job is to work on and complete a Living Building Challenge project here in the office that would encourage the project team and me to think outside the sustainable design box.
