Daniel Rose receiving honor at the Technion International Board of Governors meeting

Daniel Rose, a prominent philanthropist and chairman of Rose Associates, Inc., one of New York's oldest real estate firms, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in appreciation of his energetic devotion to the university and support for Israel. He received the honor on June 10th during the Technion International Board of Governors (BOG) meeting in Haifa.
The citation announcing the award reads: "In recognition of your lifelong dedication to the Technion and Israel; in admiration for the vision and creativity that marks your support; and with gratitude for inspiring others to join our ranks through personal example."
Accepting the award Rose said, "Creativity and innovation have become the hallmarks of the Technion. ...That New York City has chosen the Technion and Cornell to develop a world-class center of technology and science says everything that is to be said of the Technion of today."
Rose first visited the Haifa campus in 1949 as a teenager with his late uncle David, who was one of the earliest presidents of the ATS and the namesake of the Technion campus main thoroughfare.
Most recently, Mr. Rose and his wife Joanna provided the first gift to the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Technion-Cornell Innovation Institute (JTCII). The Daniel and Joanna S. Rose Fund for the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Innovation Institute, has supported a series of professional workshops aimed at sharing research ideas for JTCII's three innovative teaching "hubs" in Connective Media, Healthier Life and the Built Environment, among other initiatives.

He also is a steadfast Zionist, who sat at the Eichmann trial in 1962 and visited Israel after the wars in 1967 and 1973. Consequently, he founded the Daniel Rose Fund For The Technion-Yale Initiative In Homeland Security And Counterterrorism, in response to a British academic boycott of Israeli universities. Mr. Rose is a Yale alumnus (class of 1951).
Together with his brothers, Elihu and the late Frederick, he sponsored many transformative projects on the Technion campus including the David Rose Research Center for Physics of Quantum Structures. In addition to the Technion, Mr. Rose supports a number of other educational and civic causes (see background below).
