NAIOP Upstate N.Y. Chapter to host 15th Annual Awards Ceremony

On Wednesday, November 12, the Upstate N.Y. Chapter of NAIOP will host it's 15th Annual Awards Ceremony. The event will be held at the Memorial Art Gallery in downtown Rochester, N.Y. This year we are excited to announce a special guest speaker and artist, William Cochran. Cochran creates landmark public artworks. His projects engage the community in the creative process. His artwork is woven into the social and architectural environments. Cochran works on a wide range of government, private, community-based and non-profit organizations. Current artwork projects are taking shape in downtown cities of Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, and in Rochester, N.Y. where he is working on an urban art trail and sculpture garden in downtown Rochester. The Upstate New York Chapter is seeking nominations for projects in the following categories: Architectural and Engineering Award The Architectural and Engineering Award will be presented to a project that exhibits excellence, and considers the following criteria: unique project features and amenities, exceptional solutions to various problems, innovation or creativity in the design, building efficiency and flexibility, impact to surrounding area(s), landscape plan, energy considerations, adaptability. This project must have final approvals from local agencies for construction, or in construction in 2007-2008 in Upstate, N.Y. Brownfield Redevelopment Award The Brownfield Redevelopment Award is given to a project that transformed contaminated real property into a productive, new use. Consideration will be given to projects that were undertaken on historically contaminated, underutilized, or blighted property. Projects that resulted in the retention or creation of new jobs, as well as projects that positively impacted the real property tax base will be favored. Green Building Award This Green Building Award will be presented to a commercial or residential project that incorporates "green" concepts into design and operation. Projects considered for this award must show environmental sustainability by improving energy efficiency, reducing waste, reducing water use, reducing pollution, and/or use of renewable energy. Projects that obtained "green design" grant funding with respect to the facility's green design and/or operations will be favorably looked upon. LEED certification will also be favorably looked upon, although will not be required. Historical/Adaptive ReUse Award The Historical/Adaptive ReUse Award will be given to a project reusing old buildings or converting empty downtown warehouse space for modern commercial use. Mixed-Use Award The Mixed-Use Award will be presented to a real estate project with planned integration of some combination of retail, office, residential, hotel, recreation or other functions. Consideration for this award will be given to projects which are pedestrian-oriented and contain elements of a live-work-play environment. Projects considered must maximize space usage, have amenities and architectural expression and tend to mitigate traffic and sprawl. A new category has been added this year. The Upstate New York Chapter will be recognizing an upcoming leader with our "Developing Leader" Award. Developing Leader Award This award honors the commercial real estate professional (age 35 and under) whose work has made a significant impact on the office and industrial markets during 2007/2008.
