WSP USA names Koren VP and director of marketing and communications

David Koren, FSMPS, CPSM, who held senior marketing positions at Perkins Eastman and Gensler, has joined WSP, the global engineering, design and environmental consultancy, as vice president and director of marketing and communications for the USA region, according to David Cooper, PE, LEED AP BD+C, president and CEO of WSP USA. Koren spent six years at Perkins Eastman, where he served as associate principal and director of marketing. Previously, he worked for eight years at Gensler as the marketing director of the firm's northeast region. Koren is the author of The Architect's Essentials of Marketing, a basic guide to marketing for architects, published by John Wiley & Sons and endorsed by the American Institute of Architects (AIA). He has also contributed to The Marketing Handbook for the Design & Construction Professional by the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) and the AIA's Architect's Handbook of Professional Practice. "Engineers are not often the most effective communicators or marketers," said Cooper. "David will draw on his extensive experience serving the architecture profession to help us be more effective in these endeavors." In his new role, Koren will ensure that the marketing and communications personnel working across the Buildings, Transportation, and Environmental Service Lines work together as a cohesive team, with enhanced systems and processes that will better enable WSP USA to cross-sell its multi-disciplinary services and more effectively communicate with its clients, prospective clients, staff and strategic business partners. A resident of New York City, Koren is a fellow of SMPS and a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM). Koren was the 2005-2006 president of SMPS, and the 2003 recipient of the New York chapter's marketing mentor award. He was the co-chair of the marketing committee of the New York Chapter of the AIA from 2001 through 2004. In 2008, Koren was named one of the "40 under 40" by Building Design & Construction. He is a graduate of New York University (BFA in Dramatic Writing) and Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland (M.Phil. in Irish Theatre). Mr. Koren has two plays in print, both published by the Dramatic Publishing Company.
