WK-Equities sponsors second "Battle of the Brokers" at Citi Field; Attended by over 100 Long Island Commercial Brokers

The "Battle of the Brokers" raged on for a second year at New York Mets' Citi Field as dozens of commercial brokers from various firms across Long Island took the field on May 6th. Over 100 brokers filed into the stadium to watch their colleagues and competitors become teammates as firms from Nassau and Suffolk County were pitted against each other in a softball game and home run derby sponsored by Farmingdale-based property management firm, Wachtler Knopf Equities (WK-Equities). Greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Met and aroma of the finest food that Citi Field has to offer, attendees were immediately reminded that WK-Equities doesn't play host to the typical suited up affairs that this crowd frequents. "Events like this keep us present in the mind of the Long Island brokerage community," said Sandy Cohen, VP of management at WK-Equities. "We are committed to building strong relationships with them and this type of setting allows us to accomplish things that can't be done in a conference room." New York Mets' official game public address announcer, Alex Anthony, was on-site to be the voice of the game which was called by a professional softball umpire. "I love that we are able to host unique events like this," said Philip Wachtler, principal of WK-Equities as he cheered from the stands. "To see the brokers' competitive spirit channeled on the diamond is a real pleasure to watch and I know that they all enjoy playing and cheering each other on." Darren Leiderman, of Colliers International (Lake Success) was named MVP for his superb play throughout the competition and was awarded with a gift certificate to Blackstone Steakhouse, a current tenant within WK-Equities' portfolio in Melville. Chatter on the field and in the stands intensified following the game when individual players competed in the home run derby. The grand prize, a weekend with the gleaming 2014 Maserati GranTurismo convertible parked for all to admire at the stadium entrance, was provided by Ferrari Maserati in Plainview, another WK-Equities tenant. Doug Seale of Jones Lang LaSalle (Melville) and Tommy Rosati of Colliers International went several rounds, swing for swing, before Rosati drove home another win for Nassau and a weekend behind the wheel of the Maserati for himself. "We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day," said Wachtler. "We were in the company of first-class brokerage houses, ate good food and played a great game. I'm honored to do business with this community and to have the opportunity to share such an exceptional experience with them." WKE is a property management and leasing company which oversees a portfolio of Long Island office buildings in Bethpage, Farmingdale, Melville and Plainview owned by affiliates of Great Neck based Sterling Equities, which shares ownership with the New York Mets. The evolving relationship of environmental consultants and the lending community - by Chuck Merritt

When Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) were first part of commercial real estate risk management, it was the lenders driving this requirement. When a borrower wanted a loan on a property, banks would utilize a list of “Approved Consultants” to order the report on both refinances and purchases.
