Weidner of KeepMyGas advises NYC property owners on major updates to Local Law 152

New York, NY Bill Weidner, owner of KeepMyGas, a leading Local Law 152 compliance facilitator, advises NYC property owners of significant updates following the September 25, 2025, enactment of Int. No. 429-A by the New York City Council.

A key change involves the clarification of inspection scope, with the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) proposing rules that explicitly include gas piping in commercial tenant spaces, such as restaurants and retail stores, as part of required inspections. Residential units remain excluded.

The DOB will host a virtual public hearing on the proposed rule changes on October 27, 2025.

“The most strategic move for any building owner right now is to complete their LL152 inspection and certification under the current cycle’s rules,” said Weidner. “Understanding the new responsibility for commercial spaces is essential. Proactive compliance is the most effective way to manage costs, avoid civil penalties, and ensure the safety of your tenants and property.”

Weidner specifically urges building owners in Community Districts 11, 12, 14, 15, and 17, whose current inspection deadline is December 31, 2025, not to delay and take action under the current requirements.
