Vision Long Island sets deadline for nominations for Smart Growth Awards - February 28th

According to Vision Long Island, the deadline to nominate a project or individual for the 2014 Smart Growth Awards is February 28th. The 13th annual event will be held on June 13th at the Huntington Hilton from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. For over a decade, Vision Long Island has been honoring individuals and organizations that display true Smart Growth leadership in advancing projects, policies, regulations and initiatives. Specific focus areas include mixed-use development, affordable housing, environmental health and safety, open space and historic preservation, traffic calming and pedestrian safety, transportation enhancements, downtown revitalization and/or community planning. Award recipients will stand out from other entries in their ability to demonstrate one or more of the following: * Mix land uses * Take advantage of compact building design * Create housing choices for a range of household types, family size and incomes * Create walkable neighborhoods * Foster distinctive, attractive communities with a strong sense of place * Preserve open space, farmland, historic buildings and critical environmental areas * Strengthen existing communities and achieve more balanced regional development * Provide a variety of transportation choices * Make development decisions predictable, fair and cost effective * Encourage citizen and stakeholder participation in development decisions * Utilize clean energy and green building development Contact Vision Long Island at [email protected] or visit www.visionlongisland.org for more information.
