USGBC-LI to hold first annual Building Green Gala - March 19

All indications suggest that the first annual Building Green Gala, scheduled for March 19 at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale, will be a huge success for USGBC-LI. At the event, USGBC-LI members, local political and community leaders, and other individuals will gather to honor RexCorp CEO Scott Rechler for his company's long-term commitment to incorporating green practices into its developments. "Because the building industry has such an impact on our environment and our Long Island economy, we felt it would be appropriate to honor someone who has made a positive impact by demonstrating leadership in the building industry here on Long Island," said Rudy Holesek, the gala committee chair. "The gala is going to be exciting and informative," Holesek said. "It will offer our guests the opportunity to meet the board members of USGBC-LI and discover ways they can make a difference. USGBC is the leading authority on green building, both locally and nationally." Gala guests will enjoy an evening of social networking, fine dining, live music, and a raffle where a wide variety of prizes will be awarded. All proceeds from the event go to USGBC-LI, which is planning to use the funds to honor with scholarships five local students who have illustrated their commitment to sustainable building and design practices. The chapter also hopes to hire an executive director and to expand its educational programs to increase the knowledge of Long Island's residents about the importance of sustainable development in their communities. Tickets for the event are still available and can be purchased by going to the USGBC-LI web site at www.usgbc-li.org.
