TPG Architecture designs 6,000 s/f rooftop restaurant/brewery

TPG Achitecture has celebrated the success of La Birreria, the 6,000 s/f rooftop restaurant and micro brewery at Eataly, in the Toy Building (200 Fifth Ave.) The TPG (in collaboration with B&BHG creative director, Lisa Eaton) designed a 1920s inspired industrial brewery. The 22-seat bar is topped with white Carrara marble and the tables are made with salvaged wood. The restaurant is equipped with a retractable enclosure that allows it to operate year-round. Architecturally complex like Eataly on the ground floor, the rooftop installation required a deck capable of handling a full blown restaurant, kitchen, bar and up to 200 people. A full-scale mock-up of the retractable roof was constructed for approval by Landmarks. The stairs from the 14th floor to the roof was situated with only inches of play, around the limited overlap, elevator shaft, wheelchair lift and bathrooms.
