Thornton Tomasetti board of directors promotes Scarangello, Cuoco and DeScenza

The board of directors of Thornton Tomasetti has named managing principal Thomas Scarangello as chairman, Daniel Cuoco, who has been president since 2002, as president and CEO and Robert DeScenza, who is executive VP, as COO.
"These changes represent a milestone in our planned ownership and management transition," said Richard Tomasetti, past chairman and CEO. Tomasetti will remain active with the firm as founding principal and chairman of the newly formed charitable arm, the Thornton Tomasetti Foundation.
Scarangello, who has been with the firm since 1979, is a licensed engineer in 26 states, and has been principal in charge of engineering many award-winning and signature projects internationally. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from Manhattan College, and an advanced engineering degree from Columbia University.
Cuoco has been with the firm since 1971, and has extensive experience in the design of major structures, and the investigation of numerous building failures and collapses. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from the City College of N.Y. and NYU, respectively, and an MBA degree from Adelphi University.
DeScenza has been with the firm since 1978 and involved in the design of many unique structures, including high-rise and long-span projects. Since 2005 he has overseen operational activities of the firm in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East. He holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from The Cooper Union.
