Thomas joins Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman’s corporate/securities practice

East Meadow, NY Cynthia Thomas joined the corporate/securities practice Group at Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman, LLP as an associate.

Prior to joining the firm, Thomas was an associate in the corporate department at Cullen and Dykman, LLP. She assisted large and small businesses, not-for-profit organizations and educational institutions with mergers and acquisitions; contract drafting, review and negotiation; corporate formation, dissolution and governance; and general legal compliance. She also advised clients on matters relating to energy and utility transactions and regulations, including ratemaking and other proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the New York State Public Service Commission.

Thomas was a management assistant at Enterprise Rent-A-Car before she attended the Maurice A. Dean School of Law at Hofstra University, earning her juris doctor in 2013, graduating fifth in her class and earning the Third Year Scholastic Achievement Award. There she held a variety of internship positions, including summer fellow to the Honorable Edward McCarty, III, Nassau County Surrogates’ Court; research assistant for professor Ronald Columbo and a clinical intern at the Securities Arbitration Clinic.

While at Hofstra, Thomas also served as a research editor for the Hofstra Law Review, managing editor of the Moot Court Board, a dean’s scholar, and on the dean’s list. She served as secretary of the International Law Society, and was a member of Phi Alpha Delta, and the Business Law Society.

She earned her bachelor of science, summa cum laude, in Business Administration with a minor in Advertising from Marist College in 2007. At Marist, she made the dean’s list, was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society, the Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society, and was awarded a Research Grant from the Society of Social Responsibility and Business Ethics.

Thomas is actively involved in her community and has served as a peer AIDS Educator, as well as volunteered for Toys for Tots Christmas Charity, New York Jets Half-Time Show for the American Cancer Society, and Rely for Life.

She is admitted to practice in the states of New York and New Jersey.
