Additional benefits to brokers
Any person holding a broker's license or a salesperson's license that agrees to subscribe to the REALTOR code of ethics may join NYSCAR on the state and local level. By joining, the member is eligible for many benefits that promote their interests:
* "Realtor." A designation that stands for professionalism and high standards.
* Commercial newsletter. NYSCAR News is printed quarterly providing an update on issues affecting the industry, member news, and educational/marketing information.
* Networking/marketing. Meetings are held at the state level several times each year, allowing the opportunity to promote listings statewide, and to pursue acquisitions for clients searching for property outside of the region. Locally, monthly meetings are scheduled to educate us on real estate developments, services and pertinent topics to promote transactions. Networking at these meetings allows participants to expand their contacts, and market properties.
* Government affairs. Through political action committees, the interests of the commercial real estate practitioner are represented in the government, both in Albany and Washington, D.C. Current topics are the Commercial Lien Law and reducing the amortization of tenant improvements.
* NAR and NYSAR. Membership provides inclusion in the National Association of Realtors (NAR) and the New York State Association of Realtors (NYSAR). Professional designations may be obtained, such as the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) and the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM).
* Grievance/professional standards. There are standing peer committees to enforce the high standard of ethical conduct and to arbitrate business between commercial practitioners.
