New York, NY Erica Buckley has joined the national real estate and government relations practice groups of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP as special counsel in the New York office. Buckley, most recently chief of the Real Estate Finance Bureau, New York State Office of the Attorney General, is expected to enhance the firm’s cooperative and condominium practice.

“We are pleased that an attorney of Erica’s caliber will be joining Stroock,” said Alan Klinger, Stroock’s co-managing partner. “As we continue to bolster our market-leading national Real Estate Practice Group, Erica’s significant government and regulatory experience will serve Stroock’s clients well.”

During her tenure as chief, Buckley managed a 45-person Bureau charged with enforcing the Martin Act – New York’s blue sky law that regulates the offer and sale of real estate securities. She has regularly collaborated with other governmental agencies on numerous matters involving affordable housing and tax incentives, such as 421-a. In addition, Buckley has served as Bureau expert on affordable housing, such as Housing Development Fund Companies and Mitchell-Lama housing.

“Stroock has long been recognized for possessing New York’s premier cooperative and condominium housing practice. Michel Evanusa and I are especially thrilled to be bringing Erica onto our busy condominium team at this exciting time in the market,” said Brian Diamond, co-chair of Stroock’s national real estate practice group.

“I am excited to begin the next phase of my career, and I look forward to joining a firm with distinguished attorneys and well-respected real estate and government relations practice groups,” said Buckley.

“From the very first day of my administration, Erica has played a key part in our fight to ensure there is one set of rules for every New Yorker,” said attorney general Eric Schneiderman. “She has successfully fought to preserve or restore thousands of units of affordable housing, developed cutting edge programs aimed at enforcing rules governing rent stabilization in New York, and modernized a bureau that oversees a huge swath of our city’s housing market. While I am sad to see her leave, I congratulate Erica on a job well done and look forward to watching her thrive in her next challenges.”

Buckley received her J.D. from the City University of New York at Queens College School of Law and her B.A. from Binghamton University.
