Sabre Real Estate Group LLC has arranged two leases totaling 7,592 s/f that will give Pet Valu more L.I. locations:
* 3,092 s/f at 1250 Old Country Rd., the former Borders Bookstore, now also occupied by Thomasville Furniture, in the Westbury Plaza Shopping Center. The center is owned by Equity One, which was represented in-house by Eliot Fierberg.
* 4,500 s/f in the Hauppauge Shopping Center on Smithtown by-pass (Rte. 347) at Rte. 111. The center is owned by Federal Realty Investment Trust, which was represented in-house.
Jayson Siano, managing principal, and Melissa Naeder, director of Sabre, arranged the leases as Pet Valu's exclusive real estate brokers on L.I.
Earlier this year, the chain signed its first Long Island leases for stores in Oyster Bay, S. Setauket and New Hyde Park.

"These shopping centers in Westbury and Hauppauge are heavily trafficked and surrounded by dense populations. They represent almost ideal locations for the Pet Valu concept," Siano said.

Pet Valu, founded in Markham, Ontario, in 1976, has been expanding in the U.S. from Virginia to Connecticut since 1995. The stores offer more than 7,000 premium, holistic and organic pet foods, treats and supplies. The majority of the products that Pet Valu offers are not sold in supermarkets or big-box pet stores. The stores do not sell pets.

Owned by the Atlanta-based private equity firm Roark Capital Group, Pet Valu operates more than 400 stores throughout North America.

Pet Valu is seeking locations in strong communities in dominant neighborhood shopping centers often anchored by organic grocers or leading supermarket chains. Space requirements range from 2,000 to 5,000 square feet.
