Rowland of EW Howell named chairman of AGC

Plainview, NY According to EW Howell Construction Group, its president, Howard Rowland, has been named chairman of the Associated General Contractors of New York State (AGC NYS) for 2018.

Rowland joined EW Howell in 1982 and has been president of the firm since 1997. Under his direction, the firm has become a leader in the public and private sector in the New York Metropolitan area. During his one-year term as AGC NYS chairman, Rowland will become a spokesperson for the association and the construction industry in New York. He will play an integral part in member retention and recruitment and will run several meetings over the course of the year. Along with the board members, Rowland will examine and address current trends and events, and how those issues may impact membership, the organization, and the industry. 

AGC NYS is the leading voice of the building and heavy highway construction industry, representing more than 250 general contractors, construction managers and related companies dedicated to the ideals of skill, integrity and responsibility. The AGC provides construction advocacy to many government agencies, education and training, scholarships, the latest information on new technologies, and changing specifications and safety. 

The AGC has been a continuous and valuable resource over the years, providing EW Howell with a wealth of knowledge about state agencies, industry trends and safety procedures.  EW Howell has been a member of the AGC NYS since 1965; former principal Ralph Howell, Jr. served as president in 1982 and Rowland was the association’s director, secretary, treasurer, and vice chairman prior to his chairman appointment. 

Professionally, Rowland serves as the secretary of the New York chapter of the Building Contractors Association. He also sits on the board of the Mercy Center Ministries, an educational foundation in Blue Point, NY, and the Farmingdale State College Foundation.
