New York, NY Howard Rothschild, president of the Realty Advisory Board on Labor Relations (RAB) was the keynote speaker at IREM’s March 13th breakfast meeting at the Union League Club. The RAB represents the ownership of over 3,100 residential apartment buildings on matters related to labor, and contract negotiations. With the current 32BJ contract approaching the expiration of its four-year term on April 20th, this is a timely topic for building management so that they can be better prepared.  On behalf of ownership and management, the RAB team will be negotiating with Local Council 32BJ, the union representing maintenance staff. Rothschild told the assembled real estate professionals that both sides have historically taken a collaborative approach with negotiations in order to arrive at mutually acceptable contract terms. That hasn’t always resulted in successful outcomes, as evidenced by prior strikes, but he thought the historical track record of the RAB has been, on the whole, rather positive for the industry.

IREM also welcomed two new Certified Property Managers (CPMs). Stephen Giambrone of Related Management and Orisha Lampkin of 29 Flatbush Associates were sworn in as CPMs at the breakfast meeting. The CPM is the mark of distinction for real estate asset and property managers.

On April 18th IREM will hold The Importance of Being Ethical from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Union League Club, 38 East 37th St. The price is $85 members; $120 non-members. Jackets are required for gentlemen.

The afternoon starts with a networking cocktail hour, followed by a presentation and discussion led by IREM ethics expert Nicholas Stolatis.
