Related Affordable Foundation and KABOOM! build two playspaces at Gateway Apts. in Far Rockaway

Queens, NY Related Affordable Foundation and KABOOM!, a national nonprofit committed to ending playspace inequity, hosted a volunteer build for two new playspaces at Gateway Apartments, a 365-unit affordable housing community in Far Rockaway.

Over 130 volunteers constructed two outdoor playspaces from the ground up for the communities’ 175 children, providing the youngest residents with new, safe, and high-quality spaces to play. The effort marked Related Affordable Foundation’s ninth playground partnership with KABOOM! since 2021 and its first build in the five boroughs. In addition to the two new playspaces, KABOOM! installed a new on-site community garden.

To celebrate the completion of these new playspaces, New York State assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato of District 23 joined Related Affordable Foundation and KABOOM! at a ribbon-cutting ceremony that took place.

Volunteers from Related, the local community, and partners participated in the build. Assemblywoman Amato spoke at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
