ReBuilders Source is contractors alternative to the landfill

ReBuilders Source is a re-use store that takes in donated used or new building materials and sells those materials for below retail price. ReBuilders Source is a local, green, and democratic worker co-op business. Its goal is to create jobs and keep Bronx communities clean for the people who live in them by being a zero-waste facility. Zero-waste describes a principle that any trash sent to landfills is minimal. Located in the South Bronx, this community knows that waste is New York City's major export product. And the South Bronx is choking on it. ReBuilders Source is apart of plan of the job creation of industries that recover valuable materials from waste. This salvaged industry preserves natural resources, avoiding the need to dump New York City waste on other communities, and reducing pollution. ReBuilders Source transitioning member, Janco Damas said, "We need to encourage responsible disposal of all these materials." This is the first worker-owned building material center. It is a viable alternative for contractors and homeowners from putting perfectly good building materials into the landfill. Jerome Villanueva, Damas, and Joel Frank are the new transitioning worker owners at ReBuilders Source. ReBuilders Source sells appliances, $5 paint, doors, flooring, lumber, along with bathroom, kitchen and lighting materials at their 461 Timpson Place showroom in the Bronx. Visit them at www.rebuilderssource.coop for more information online.
