Racanelli Construction Company, Inc. has been selected as the construction manager and constructor of an 84,000 s/f project for Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center. It is fourth project Racanelli will be constructing for the Medical Center. In 2003, the company performed the preconstruction and provided its construction services for the Medical Center's Emergency Department expansion. Last summer, Racanelli complete its Modular Catheterization Lab addition and currently, in addition to this latest project, it is building a Wound Care Center for the Medical Center in Hauppauge, which is slated for completion this spring.
The new project is being built at the Medical Center's main location at 101 Hospital Rd. It will encompass the construction of an estimated 72,000 s/f space including one floor below grade and two floors above grade, as well as an additional 12,000 s/f penthouse that will be used to house mechanical systems. The project was designed to maximize available space and to give the Medical Center the ability to provide its healthcare services efficiently. The project will house operatory suites, pre and post-procedure holding areas and related support areas.
Racanelli's services in this project will include pre-construction management services consisting of preliminary budgeting, review and document updating as the phase progresses. Once the final project costs are established, the project will advance to the construction phase. It will include: subcontractor selection, coordination, monitoring and supervision for all aspects of construction. Additionally, Racanelli will coordinate daily activities, and maintain ongoing communications and interaction with the Medical Center's liaisons to assure that there will be no interruption to the day-to-day activities and health care services provided at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center. As with many healthcare construction projects, the challenge is to maintain existing utility services and the daily operations and services of the Medical Center, while delivering the project in a multi-phased construction environment.
The project will consist of a structural steel skeleton with a foundation of cast in place concrete. The perimeter infill will be of light gauge steel framing made ready to receive various finishes, including: metal panel, composite panel, brick veneer, curtain wall and aluminum storefronts. The project's interior will consist of metal stud with gypsum board framed partitions, wall coverings, and flooring suitable for the Medical Center's operatory environment. Rounding out the core elements of the project will be four elevators, a vibration isolation floor system, and a pneumatic tube system along with a complex network of patient monitoring systems. The project is slated for completion in April 2016.
