Racanelli Construction Co., Inc., recently completed the addition of a 5,000 s/f adult home on behalf of the Plattduetsche Home Society, a Long Island-based charitable organization which has been providing elder care and adult home services since 1923. According to Racanelli's project manager Bob Latuga, The new adult home features an exterior insulation finish system (EIFS), Fypon moldings, drywall, acoustical ceilings and quarry tile flooring.

Among the special provisions incorporated into the building to assist the home's elderly handicapped residents are an exterior concrete ramp with metal hand railings, exterior porch sitting area and new handicap-accessible main lobby entrance. Also featured are large elevators, corridors with handrails, a complete sprinkler system, electronic smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and public address system. The building is set on seven acres of a well-manicured lawn with many large trees to create a serene, park-like setting.

About the Plattduetsche Honor Society
Founded in 1923, the Plattduetsche Home Society has been caring for the aged for 87 years. Its earliest roots were in 1910 when two delegates of t he Plattduetsche Volksfest Verein, Chris Ellmers and Wilhelm Neumann, conceived of the idea of building a home for "old folks" who could no longer live on their own. In 1913, the forerunner of the charitable organization was formed and subsequently incorporated under New York State as a not-for-profit organization. Through piano contests and benefit performances by various singing societies, and donations raised by the Plattduetsche Volksfest, ten acres of farmland were purchased for the society's present site under the management of Martin H. Renken, the owner of the Renken Dairy. In 1918, an additional seven acres were purchased. In 1922, the central portion of the present building was completed housing 28 residents. Subsequent expansions in 1930 and 1973, led to the construction of East and West Wings to the original structure. In 1999, 18 unit/enriched housing apartments were built and another 30 units added in 2000. Among the amenities residents enjoy are a chapel, beauty parlor, library, entertainment and hobby rooms, exercise room, pool and Jacuzzi. For more information, visit: www.PlattduetscheHome.com
