Q & A session with More of Mission Capital Advisors

The NYREJ recently sat down with Jonathan More, who is part of Mission Capital Advisors' debt & equity financing group, for a question and answer session. Q: Describe how you chose your profession and how you have succeeded in this industry? A: I was fortunate to have family in the real estate business. Since the age of 11 years old, I've been riding around in the car from properties to development sites, taking lessons from my stepfather, who is my mentor, confidante, and business partner. Real estate was a natural for me, as it is a practical business based on common sense, high energy and relationships. Q: What is your proudest accomplishment? A: Building blocks and skill sets over the course of my career. Taking this patient approach has made an incredible difference. My ability to analyze deals, seek the deal issues and craft creative solutions is far superior given this patient approach and these varying experiences. Q: If you could use one word to describe your work environment, what would it be? A: Collaborative. Mission's team approach yields greater work product, better efficiency, and more volume. Our team sits together on a trading desk and communication is paramount. Q: What is the best advice you have ever received? A: Always tell the truth (and do the right thing); always work your tail off; you'll never close a deal over the phone. Q: Rules to live by in business: A: Always do the right thing and always be the bigger person; give every day, every person, and every deal 120% effort; relationships are currency in the real estate business; get to know everyone, no matter what; learn as much as possible from every deal and every circumstance; cultivate mentorships with savvy people who you respect and admire; be patient; good things take forever to happen; and you never know. Jonathan More is part of the debt & equity financing group at Mission Capital Advisors, New York, N.Y.
