Justin Baker - 2015

Name: Justin Baker - 2015

Title: Vice President

Company: Lilker EMO Energy Solutions

Location: New York, NY and Falls Church, VA

Birthplace: Pittsburgh, PA

Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn. State University

First job outside of real estate: Working in Carnegie, PA with an environmental engineering firm. My role involved creating and running tests to better understand the properties of DNAPL that had been collected from contaminated sites. Basically they gave us a really cool lab and equipment and said, “See what you can find out about this toxic tar we’re pulling out of the ground.”

First job in real estate or allied field: Working as a commissioning agent in D.C. Spent my first year in and out of the mechanical rooms of the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol Visitor Center.

What do you do now and what are you planning for the future? Currently the vice president of Lilker EMO overseeing the sustainability services with a focus on Cx and RCx in D.C. and NYC. Looking forward to continuing to work with design engineers, property managers, and contractors to drive the industry towards creating energy efficient, reliable, and comfortable work/living spaces through innovative design and results- driven commissioning and retro-commissioning.

How do you unwind from a busy day in real estate? Chasing my two year old around the park and then catching up with my wife over a glass of wine.

Favorite book or author: James Patterson – Perfect books for an easy read on the beach or while traveling.

Favorite movie: “Tombstone”

Last song you purchased/downloaded? I have yet to download a song. I typically just listen to whatever is on Pandora or Slacker.

One word to describe your work environment: Family

Rules to live by in business: If the client isn’t satisfied, then we’re not done.

If you could invite one person to dinner (living or dead, but not related to you) who would it be and where would you go? Roberto Clemente – His poster hung on my wall since before I can remember. Growing up in Pittsburgh you constantly heard about his greatness on and off the field. I’d take him somewhere on Pittsburgh’s Southside.

What is your dream job? Designing and stocking large salt water aquariums.
