President's message: NYSCAR annual meeting on Sept. 14

NYSCAR will hold their annual meeting on September 14 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Saratoga Springs at 11 a.m.  Committee reports will be given by the various committees and the proposed slate of officers and governors will be presented for approval. The nominating committee has recommended the following slate of officers and governors:  Officers for 2009: Myself as president; Joseph Rowley, Jr., first VP; Michael Johnson, second VP; Richard Ferro, secretary; John Lavelle, treasurer.  Governors (term, 2009-2011): Brian DiNardo, James Kelly, and Jerome Norton, CCIM, SIOR. The education committee will also be presenting the 2009 schedule which will be published in a future letter.  For now, I would like to encourage you to take advantage of two upcoming classes sponsored by NYSCAR, which will be offered in September and October.  Space is limited for both offerings, so please act today!  You may email Sherry Marr at [email protected] for further information and to request a brochure. NYSCAR's upcoming events include the following: * September 29-30, "Commercial Basics," instructed by Alan Gramet, CCIM, Doubletree Hotel, Syracuse. This course provides a general overview of the commercial and investment real estate business.  Learn to use the HP 10BII calculator to perform many of the functions that are used daily in commercial real estate.  The course teaches you to analyze property operating data. You will learn the formulas and perform the calculations used in investment real estate transactions. * October 27-28, "Developing and Syndication: Big Money Real Estate," instructed by Chet Allen, CCIM, SEC, Holiday Inn, Wolf Road, Albany. Topics include (but not limited to):  Expanding Your Capabilities, Identifying Opportunities, Transitioning into Developing/Syndicating, What is a Developer?, The Steps in Development, Locating Development Opportunities, Analyzing Profit Potential, Market Analysis, Tying up the Opportunity, The Due-diligence Process, Securing the Expertise, Raising Equity Capital - Syndication, Developing the Project, Development Management, Brainstorming Development Opportunities, Avoiding the Big Mistakes * National Association of Realtors Conference and Expo will be held November 7-10 in Orlando, Fla. Associations of Realtors will be held December 9-11.  Triple Play will be held at the Atlantic City, N.J. Convention Center. Stanley Gniazdowski, CCIM, CRE will teach the CCIM-Introduction to Commercial Investment Real Estate Analysis course (Dec. 8 and 9) and Bob Giniecki, CCIM, SEC will serve as moderator for a commercial marketing session on December 10.
